Design Engineer / Primary Plant Engineer
Location: North-East
Our client is one of the UK’s primary companies working in the area of high-voltage substations, specialising in project management, design & installation. They are currently recruiting for Design Engineers from various disciplines with applicable experience to this sector, with the main function of the role to engineer designs for electrical substation projects up to a voltage of 400kV.
As part of the Design Team the successful applicants will liaise with other team members, internal departments, clients, and regulatory bodies as required in order to comply with their responsibilities for planning, procurement, and design, to ensure the smooth running of a project for the benefit of the company and the clients. More specifically though the Primary Plant Engineers will be responsible for:
• Presentation of front end design principles to Client via design intent document
• Initiation of substation layout and section drawings and the final approval of same
• Initiation of the modification of existing layout and section drawings and the final approval of same
• Initiation of calculation of loads and overturning moments
• Establishment of structural requirements and the final approval of same
• Co-ordination and checking of civil designs
• Earthing design, including initiation of earthing layout drawings and the final approval of same
• Specification of all primary plant components, including the preparation of purchase order requisitions
• Initiation of schedules of busbars, connectors, clamps and earthing materials and the final approval and requisition of same
• Initiation of mechanical interlock design and the final approval and requisition of same
• Specification and requisition of switchgear labels
• Busbar span calculations including sag calculations where appropriate
• Review subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements
